The purpose of the Malvasía Information Centre (CIM) is to preserve and further the cultural heritage of Malvasía de Sitges.
The centre is currently open to visitors on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
The CIM project has been promoted by the Foundation of the Hospital de Sant Joan Baptista of Sitges and has been set-up in the adjacent Corral de la Vila and original hospital cellar, a public building that dates back to the XVIII century.
Visitors to the CIM learn about the history and current activities regarding Malvasía de Sitges and are able to taste and purchase the different varieties of the wine and understand how it is produced by visiting the on-site vineyard, run by the hospital.
The aim is to create a Malvasía wine experience, placing the accent on tradition, proximity and current social function.
The centre has been conceived as a hands-on and sensorial museum with photographs, audio visual content, explanatory texts, games, bottles, barrels (9 currently in use in the hospital cellar) or a grape press, among other interesting items.
The CIM´s catalogue is widely comprehensive and covers many areas: oenology, ethnology, inmaterial, nature, gastronomy, artistic and intellectual and cultural. The exhibition itself is structured around four main themes:
- Characteristics and grape varieties
- Expansion and history of Malvasía de Sitges
- The Llopis legacy and history of the foundation.
